Central Park Typemap

This is still a work in progress. It danced around my head for six months, then became freehand sketches on paper before I started working on it digitally. The look I'm after is a sea of organic type in a rigid setting of rectilinear streets. The organic twists and turns are what Frederick Law Olmsted sought to achieve when he designed the park. He wanted to meandering paths to create an experience where you could start to forget the city around you.
